The Flash Season 9 Episode Will Reintroduce Stephen Amell as Green Arrow
The Green Arrow, played by Arrow actor Stephen Amell, will return as Oliver Queen in a special episode of The Flash season 9. One of The CW’s longest-running Arrowverse shows is ending after almost ten years. For one more season, Grant Gustin will produce as Barry Allen, a.k.a. the Scarlet Speedster. The CW renewed The Flash for the final 13 episodes of season 9 in 2022, ending its tenure. For the last season, the original stars Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker, who played Iris West-Allen and Caitlin Snow, respectively, will also be back. The final season will debut on Wednesday, February 8, at 8 PM.
One day after it revealed that Kid Flash, Diggle, and Bloodwork would return to The Flash, another veteran of the Arrowverse is doing the same. According to an official announcement from The CW made by Arrow star Stephen Amell, Oliver Queen will be back in episode 9 of The Flash season 9. With this appearance, Amell returns to the franchise for the first time since 2020. Eric Wallace, the show’s creator and executive producer, provided the following comment regarding Amell’s significant cameo:
How Oliver Queen Appearances Always Prepare For The Flash Season 9
The Arrow series finale, when the show ended its story in the Afterlife with his wife, Felicity Smoak, was the last time viewers saw Amell on-screen. Although Oliver has been declared dead for years, the Arrowverse has previously planned for Oliver to make a return in season 9 of The Flash. Oliver appeared again in his Spectre form in issue #6 of Earth-Prime, the official comic book adaptation of The Arrowverse. Oliver makes several appearances in “Hero’s Twilight,” only to expose himself at the very end. Although he did not explain Oliver’s return as the Spectre in the comic, he had arrived with a warning that the heroes needed to “be ready for what’s coming.”
Oliver might appear in The Flash season 9 because Earth-Prime is canon to the Arrowverse. It is unclear if episode 9 will address the events of Earth-Prime in any way. The concept that episode 9 will closely relate to what happened in Earth-Prime is supported by some precedent, though.
Bloodwork had escaped from his ARGUS jail in the previous issue with the tease, “To conclude in The Flash season 9.” It seems likely that there will be at least some sort of reward to the Earth-Prime teaser, as Bloodwork also debuts in episode 9. If that were the issue, it wouldn’t be surprising if Oliver makes an appearance in episode 9 and accomplishes a similar feat.
Many fans would like to see Amell return for one more episode, especially since The Flash will mark the end of a significant Arrowverse arc. The Flash is the final Earth-Prime program in the franchise, regardless of whether Superman & Lois renew for a fourth season. Once The Flash closes this year, an era will be over with Superman & Lois taking place on a different Arrowverse Earth. Hopefully, viewers will see Amell’s significant Arrowverse come back as soon as possible as The Flash season 9 approaches its premiere.
