Gustaf Hammarsten, Ashley Madekwe, and Luke Kirby Join ‘Dr. Death’ Season 2 at Peacock (EXCLUSIVE)
According to a single Variety source, Peacock has added Luke Kirby, Gustaf Hammarsten, and Ashley Madekwe as series regulars for “Dr. Death” Season 2.
In season 2 of the anthology series, the three join previously confirmed cast members Mandy Moore and series protagonist Edgar Ramirez.
“Dr. Death” is based on the related Wondery podcast. Season 3 of the podcast serves as the basis for season 2 of the show, which tells Paolo Macchiarini’s real-life story (played by Ramirez). Macchiarini is a charming surgeon who is well-known for his cutting-edge procedures, earning him the moniker “Miracle Man,” according to the official logline. The barrier between personal and professional life starts to blur when investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Moore) approaches him for a story, changing her life forever.
As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway around the world make astounding discoveries of their own that call everything about the “Miracle Man” into doubt.
Dr. Nathan Gamelli, who is billed as “a cardiovascular surgeon working at a world-class hospital in Sweden,” will be played by Kirby. He is under criticism since he expressed uncertainty about Dr. Macchiarini’s ground-breaking operations. Dr. Ana Lasbrey, a physician at the institute, will be played by Madekwe. She joins Macchiarini’s group to advance her stem cell research career. And Hammarsten, who is described as “a family man and researcher,” will play Dr. Svensson. Alarm bells start to ring when he oversees Macchiarini’s lab rat clinical trials.
The character of Lenny Bruce in the popular Amazon series “His most well-known role is from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” for which Kirby received the 2019 Emmy Award for best guest actor in a comedy series. In addition to appearing in the HBO Max revival of “Gossip Girl,” he most recently starred in the Spectrum Originals series “Panhandle.”
